Flower Friday

Our Hosts are  DB Boyz and Angel Dory

large photo in full bloom, top right beginning to open, middle right opening
bottom right and middle bottom buds, bottom left the glorious white is fading; however,
even in fading it is a beautiful flower.

The magnolia flower meaning is attached with the symbols of nobility, perseverance, and love of nature. Soft and subtle in color yet strong in appearance, the flower is representative of the beauty encompassing femininity and gentleness. Often men prefer to gift their female partner the magnolia flowers, as an appreciation of their beauty.

Being awakened from your 87th nap is B A D, but it is even worse
when you are dreaming about an all you can eat fish buffet.

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday and Louis' Challenge

Thank you all for you kind compliments on my new header...
FYI:  I renewed TOGM's contract now after almost 8 years that she has become a tad more cre8tive.

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday with Teddy and Angel Sammy

Today's post is brought to you by the letter
X
Xcitement is what I felt when I realized it was X day
Xactly how I was going to rhyme
Was something I hoped would come to mind
Xcept what I had in my mind was only a scheme
Xtreme glee filled my cup when
Madi finally said, Mom give it up, there is no Xrta time
You will never Xcel at poetry unless
you Xerox one from the pages of time.
X's and O's
Madi and Mom

We are Xcited to also be participating

......in Louis' May Challenge to talk about a story or book we like and why.
Your story can be a poem, book, folk tale, movie, song or anything else that could be considered to be a story. It could be a story you have made up or one that you heard around a campfire. The wide-open choice is yours.  Write some words about the story and why you like it.

Each of the books is non fiction.
1. Dewey:  The small town Library Cat who Touched the World by Vicki Myron with Bret Witter
What we liked about it was EVERYTHING!  But mainly Dewey lived in a library with BOOKS.
Dewey's story starts off not so good BUT OMCs he winds up a kitty known world wide.....
He was only a few weeks old, he was stuffed in a return book slot at Spencer, Iowa's library.
The morning Dewey was found in the library he pulled himself up and hobbled on frostbitten feet to nudge each of the staff present.  He won their hearts.  In spite of his circumstances Dewey survived and inspired everyone who came in the Library for 19 (yes nineteen years). Dewey had a way of knowing just who came in and needed his attention the most.

2. Amazing Gracie: A Dog's Tale:  by Dan Dye and Mark Beckloff, the co-founders of
Three Dog Bakery
In 2000, I read a love story, Amazing Gracie, A Dog's Tale.
The book jacket starts off, "it was love at first sight"!
Dan went to see a house full of Dane Pups...Gracie was the runt of the litter so to speak.
She had so many digestive issues she was not thriving.
She struggled to get up to go to Dan.  He said he could just tell she was saying
"you know I'm the one, now get me outta here"!
Gracie's digestive issues were the motivation for ,Three Dog Bakery.
If you have not read this love story, I highly recommend it.
There are 248 pages full of love and devotion, this is why we loved this book

No words from mom Wednesday

To my friends I only agreed to wear this heart leaf on my back so you could see how large it is.

Always put your feets in stuff, and give them a smell...before you dare to put your tongue in it!!

Flower Friday and Family Fotos

Our hosts are Angel Dory and her Mama

My dad is king of designing potted flowers.
Our houses faces north it is great for sun puddles; however,
flowers in the ground not so much.  They love being in pots.
Below left just 3 Petunias on May 6...same pot May 13
it is full of purrfect purple petunias
On the bottom right we have no clue what it is but we like it.

This pot started out in front of our back lamp post
But Dad moved it to the deck stairs where there is more direct sun

Sissy sent mom some photos of  Team Cuteness, aka Frisco and Mia this week... I must admit they are purrty darn CUTE!!!

W

Week

Each week Mom attempts to write poetic words
No matter the effort the words are audio swords.
Week after week I scratch my head while wondering
Where in the world mom's mind will wander.
Will she ponder why, where and when
 or blunder yet again.
Will she fail or will she prevail
Will it be thumbs up or down

With Woeful Wails

Tuesday 2 cat tale.....

Memories of Ursula and Gudrun

When my human uncle lived in NY,  he adopted 2 sister kitties. While Uncle was away at work one day, the kitties( ~ about 9 months old) decided it would be fun make swing out of the hanging potted plant. All Uncle could figured was they took turns jumping up to the tassel grabbing it with their claws and swinging. Eventually the hook came out of the ceiling the pot landed on the carpet...dirt was everywhere when he got home...........but amazingly the kitties were fast a sleep BUT they forgot to clean their paws. Mom would have loved seeing Uncle's face when he got home.  All we had was a picture of the aftermath.  This was way back in the mid 80's.Those girls were a hand full. Not long after that,  my peeps and sis went to Syracuse to visit Uncle and the kitties.  It was actually mom's very first time being with cats.  Ursula and Gudrun were curious about their company and OMCs mom says my sis fell in love instantly with them.  My peeps were fast asleep on the sofa bed when all of a sudden mom was awakened by what she thought was dad touching her head as he rolled over.  Mom scooted over a bit but it happened again.  Lo and behold Ursula was on the back of the couch playing swat with mom hair.

After Uncle moved back to Raleigh, Mom used to cat sit for him when he went on trips. On her first sitting experience she arrived to find NO food anywhere. She finally found a note telling her where the food was stored.  He said he could not leave it on the counter because they knew how to open a new bag of kibble.  All he could figure was one would stand on the bag while the other gnawed and clawed at the top. They would eventually get the bag open. He learned this the hard way while in NY.  He left the bag on the counter after a quick trip to the grocery store. Came home to find an entire bag of kibble all over the counter, floor and in the sink. Mom thinks they were rebelling because of the names he gave them.

Monday Madi Mews

My sweet human sissy calls my peeps every Sunday either via
Facetime or their landline.
YES we still have a landline and yes mom still has a flip fone!
Stop laughing....
Their landline is 11 years old...last week while talking to sis via landline
the crazy thing started beeping battery low, it is supposed to have a 12 hour battery.  Now granted sis and mom can talk the ears of a corn stalk and an Eskimo into buying and air conditioner but they had not been talking very long.
So mom says to Dad it is time we bought a new phone.  Her reasoning was valid it needed replacing
'cause obviously it was OLD.  However, when you see what she came home with you might decide there was another more impawtant reason.

What do you REALLY think mom was thinking when she bought the AT&T new phone?
I purrsonally don't think it had 1 thing to do with the battery!!!!!!
Picture taken on Friday May 12, it was dreary, 55 degrees I was not interested in the photo shot!!

What do you think?

This picture speaks volumes
oh and speaking of volumes it is a wee bit
louder too!!!
It does have a few new functions that will
require some time.  TOGM does have the
time and date set and voice mail set. AND the quiet button is her new favorite feature.  You can press that at night or anytime you don't want to be bothered with answering the phone or hearing annoying voice mail from Telemarketers!!! The phone acts as normal just QUIET(ly).  Also it announces the number calling
and IRONICALLY it was less expensive than the old Panasonic
MOLMOL

In other breaking news...
Evidently my water fountain did something to offend me.
I have used a fresh flow fountain since my first day here at Madi Manor. However, I, Madi(son) D Cat, will no longer use it.  No clue why!! The filter was changed monthly, water was often changed twice a day due to Moi drinking from it with a mouth full of food.
But alas NO More sipping fresh flowing water!
I am currently a card carrying member of BDA
Bowl Drinkers Anonymous.

Mom, Mom's Mom and Sissy

To all moms of 2 and 4 leggers!!

Madi is letting me aka Mom post today.

Below is a photo that was taken  in 1998 during my daughter's wedding portrait sitting.
Thank goodness we had a very wise and experienced photographer.
It was his custom to take a snap shot of moms, daughters and grandmothers if all were present.
This is a treasured snap shot....

I am on the left, my daughter in the center and my Mama aka Mom on the right.

My mama loved this photo.
Mother's Day about 15 years ago a friend helped me copy this photo onto fabric.
Then I made the pillow below and added the photo to it.  Mama kept this
pillow on her bed and she told me every night she kissed her girls
good night. Mothers do things like that.

Not everyone is called Mom, Mother or Grandmother:
My mother always wanted me to call her Mother...I called her Mama
My daughter calls me Ma
Before my daughter was born, Mama said I hope this baby will call me something unusual.
Evidently my daughter heard that request.  From the day she could speak
she called my Mama,  Loula.
Mama's given name was Lou...just Lou not Louise. Her middle name was Daniel.
Mama was the baby of 7, 5 of them girls, 1 boy.  Mama was born when her *Mother was in her mid 40's.  Maybe they were hoping for another boy.
I'm sure my daughter heard my Dad call Mama, Lou.  Thus the Lou part, as for the la, no clue.
After my daughter was born, nearly everyone who knew my Mama started calling her Loula
even at work.  I even called her Loula more than Mama and my husband called her Loula.
I called my *maternal grandmother, Annie Ma.
This name came from the oldest granddaughter, Becky.  I'm told Becky could not
pronounce "G's".   She was trying to say Grandma..somehow it came out
Annie Ma and it stuck.  My paternal Grandmother...was Grandmother...nothing else.

I love names and how they came about.  What do you call your Mom or Grandmother?

Flower Friday and See Beautiful

We thank Angel Dory  Dory's Backyard for being our hostess today

We are happy to join our Sweet Friend Angel Sugar today
for This Moment, See Beautiful

The definition of
Beautiful: having beauty

I use the word beautiful a lot.  However, over the last few
months I have been reminded of many beautiful things in my life.
Family is beautiful, good health is beautiful, friends
are beautiful.
Waking up each morning to a new day with new possibilities
in each moment of the day is beautiful.
I suspect by NOW you all know Madi fills our days
with beauty.  She marches to her own itty bitty kitty drum.
Usually she loves sleeping on as many layers a possible;
however, some weeks she choses to shun the nice fluffy
towels placed on each bed

Thoroughly Poetic and Thankful Thursday

TODAY I'M JOINING MY BUDDIES Angel SAMMY and Teddy FROM

Today's post is brought to you by the letter
V
Verses
No matter how much we try
our verses are the worst.
We try to rhyme but most times
it just comes out like we have  mouths full mush.
Each week we feel we should hush.
However, the party in mom's head starts to
dance saying girls
Alas try, try again
The nonsense has no end.
We have  a few more verses to say
Fifteen years ago today
the sun did shine, the stars were aligned.
My mom saw a kit with a pink nose
Happily she proclaimed little girl you are mine.
As this poem draws to a close,
let me just say
today is my 15th Got'cha day...
And each of the fifteen have been
F I N E!!

This photo was taken about 3 days after Madi (who at the name was nameless) came to live with us.
It took us longer to agree on a name for her than it did to name our Daughter

Needless to say I, Madi(son) D Cat am VERY THANKFUL to
be loved and cared for by my peeps.

I am Thankful to TG (tall guy) and Jack for helping us get our blog started way back in 2009.
Without their help and encouragement we would not be blogging!!
Jack's, Bro Kai, came by to say hi today too.
Kai is so handsome when we saw this photo we squealed.

HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY

Tuesday Tale: Sis's HS graduation

Since it is graduation time mom and I thought we'd share a story about
human Sis's high school Graduation in 1989.

Sis went to  Needham B. Broughton High School, it was established in 1929 as then-Raleigh High School. It is the oldest high school in Raleigh still being used to this day.
Over the years additions have been made to the back of the school but the
front remains as it was in 1929.

In 1989 there were over  800  correction Dad, resident numbers guy, told mom it was a hair over 500 graduating seniors, too many to graduate in the school auditorium.  A decision was made to hold graduation on the football field shown below.  The stage was set up in the middle of the field along with chairs for the graduating class.  Family and friends sat on the metal bleachers behind the fence.   So as you see below the track field was between the bleachers and the football field.  IMPORTANT fact our last name begins with a U and the ceremony was in alphabetical order
On graduation day my sis, mom, dad, and both sets of grandparents and Sis' uncle
headed to the school.  As they arrived it started to drizzle YIKES but that was the least of the worries that day.  Everyone found a seat the band played as the grads walked onto the field.. Most of those attending left their good manners in their car I guess because it was on a football field. The grads were so far away it was hard to hear their names; however,  as soon as a grad received their diploma their family got and clomped down all the metal stairs...as the next letter of the alphabet was called. So this went on and on and on all thru the alphabet.  FINALLY they called U.....the grads filed up to the stage.
Just as Upchurch was called a good size airplane flew over the field. The peeps did not hear Sis's name called nor could the see her 'cause the rude people were clomping down the stairs.  It was a fiasco...the following week the principal sent out a letter to all the grads and their families apologizing for the fiasco.  It was the first and last out door graduation at
Broughton. To this day none of the auditoriums in any of the high schools are large enough.  The high schools use other larger facilities around the city.
