For our British friends...

Sunset over the  OUTER BANKS

TODAY I'D LIKE TO SHARE SOME PHOTOGRAPHS
I TOOK AT THE BRITISH CEMETERY IN MEMORY OF
THE CREW OF THE HMT BEDFORDSHIRE, WWII
ON OCRACOKE ISLAND
IT WAS A VERY TOUCHING EXPERIENCE BY ALL
ON THE TOUR
This cemetery has been maintained for all these years by the crew of Coast Guard Station on Ocracoke please
click here to read about this cemetery
The crosses below were placed in remembrance
by the N. C. Coast Guard
Of the 4 British soldiers buried here only Lt. Cunningham  and Stanley Craig, telegraphist were identified
The other two are unknown and The remainder of the Bedfordshire crew was lost at sea

The headstones below were placed in remembrance by the
British Government

To this day the cemetery continues to receive visitors from all over. We were astonished to see all the money they leave.   The coast guard puts it money back into the care of the cemetery.
There was a British lady on our tour...she did not know about this cemetery. She was brought to tears by the kindness and beauty of the area.  Note the gold British coin.

  2. Oh thank you, our lovely American friend, for showing us these pictures of this cemetery. How beautifully it is kept, but how sad the loss of life.
