Pot Luck Friday #6

Well look who is cooking up something today for Pot Luck Friday....
The one and only Madi @ 3.5 mos old.
The date on the pictures is correct, 6/23/2002.
Madi had been living with us exactly 1.5 months.
Oh if we had been paying attention, we would have seen her distinct personality developing rapidly in front of our eyes.
What she is trying her best to get to is HAMBURGER meat. ....
this shows a serious Foodie in training.

Had we been paying attention in this picture we would have noticed the lack of remorse on her face at being caught.....she is truly a Diva in training here, does as she pleases and makes no apologies.
Sweet Girl you make us smile every single day!!
PS After Mom's total kitchen makeover in 2006 she got a larger fridge
with more room for food and Me!!!

Madi has a question????

Madi: Sometimes I'm just busy thinking and Mom bothers me.....
Note from Mom: the tall chest behind Madi is the one she likes to jump on in the middle of the night. As you can see it has lots of drawers with lots of handles that clink and clank as she would jump up and down. Now you see why she doesn't sleep in our bedroom.

UPDATE On My Papa aka Mom's Dad.
The doctor at UNC said the bump below Papa's eye was going to have to be removed. It is a small area of basal cell skin cancer. The surgery is scheduled for September 15.
Thank you all very much for your concern and kind wishes.

Happy Birthday Jack & Essence of fish

Today, August 23, 2010, is my K9 friend Jack's 2nd birthday.
Happy Birthday Jack
Mom and I want to wish him a wonderful day filled with food, fun and frolicking.
Drop by to say hi to Jack. He is a handsome yellow Lab, with brown eyes...sigh....
Would you like an Altoid Mr. Fish?

Note from Mom:
I'm taking my Dad (Madi's Papa) to a doctor's appt. out of town today.
I probably will not be able to visit you until much later today or tomorrow but I will catch up.
Happy Monday to you all and may nothing be fishy in your world today.

Steeple Sunday #24: Bayleaf Baptist Church

In the late 1870's a community of 25 families lived nearly 15 miles from the capital city of Raleigh. There was a one room school house in the center of the community. The school needed a name. The people of the community chose Bay Leaf becasue it was as close as possible to Bailey which was the last name of the majority of the children enrolled in the school.
Some claim the name Bay Leaf was chosen becasue of the number of bay trees growing in the area. Over the last four months of chasing steeples, I have been very fortunate to take most of my pictures when the sky is so blue the white steeples just pop out.

The church membership continued to grow over the years due to the population growth in northern Wake County. In March 1981 Bay Leaf Baptist Church membership accepted a recommendation to build a new sanctuary. The picture below is of the front entrance of the main sanctuary. The huge columns in front seem to be characteristic of many Baptist churches built in the late 1980's.
The picture below is of the side entrance to the church. Notice the difference in the size of the columns.
The picture below shows two steeples. The one in the foreground is shorter and is on the original sanctuary.

This picture was taken from the front of the church. How nice would it be to come out of church each Sunday to see these beautiful horses. Even though Bay Leaf Baptist Church is only about 8 miles north our home, the day I took these pictures was the first time I had ever visited the church.
On a more personal note...when Mom started working at NCSU in 1968 her supervisor was a desendant of the original Bailey family mentioned at the beginning of this post. It was Ms. Janie Bailey, who taught Mom how to crochet and nutured her love of the craft. Ms. Bailey was also an excellent supervisor who patiently taught Mom the ins and outs of working in academia.
Ms. Bailey has been deceased for many years but Mom still remembers her very fondly every time she picks up a crochet hook.
